The MAPUA INSTITUTE OF TECHONOLOGY (MIT or MapuaTech) campus is the original site of the San Francisco Church and the Chapel of the Venerable Order Tencere.

This school was founded in 1925 by Don Tomas Mapua, the first registered Filipino architect. It began as a night school in Quiapo for courses in Civil Engineering and Architecture but later expanded with a high school department and other courses in engineering.

After World War II, the institute reopened along Doroteo Jose St. in Santa Cruz , Manila . The school soon expanded its campus with the Intramuros complex later housing the School of Architecture and some engineering courses. In 1973, the entire collegiate department moved to the Walled City .

In 1999, the ownership of the Mapua Institute was passed to the business conglomerate YGC Group of Companies.
