Named after the Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the shrine in historic Fort Santiago is a restored two-story building formerly used as barracks for Spanish artillery soldiers. In one corner of the ground floor is the prison cell where Rizal stayed prior to his execution at the Luneta for rebellion charges.

On display are various Rizal memorabilia, consisting of books, manuscripts, artwork, shells, insects, wardrobe and personal effects. Also in the collection are household possessions of the Rizal family.
